Course Advisor: Christopher M. Ryan
Christopher Ryan is a senior associate in the international arbitration and litigation groups at Shearman & Sterling LLP. He has practiced international law since 2000 and has represented private and government clients before: U.S. Federal Courts; ICSID tribunals; ICC, AAA, and ad hoc arbitral tribunals; NAFTA Chapter 19 dispute resolution panels; and the WTO Dispute Resolution Body. He has advised U.S. and foreign companies on various issues of public and private international law, U.S. investment and trade policy, and strategies for mitigating the risks associated with foreign investment. Prior to joining Shearman & Sterling, Mr. Ryan clerked for the Honorable Gregory W. Carman, Chief Judge, United States Court of International Trade. Mr. Ryan is a Lecturer at the University of Virginia School of Law and The George Washington University School of Law, teaching courses on International Investment Law and International Commercial Arbitration. Mr. Ryan has also taught courses on international trade and investment at the George Mason University School of Law and undergraduate courses on Public International Law at Villanova University. In 2005, Mr. Ryan was a Visiting Scholar at Yale Law School.
