The American Bar Association (ABA), founded in 1878, and now one of the largest professional associations in the world (410,000 members) comprised of lawyers, law students and legal professionals globally. The ABA’s most important stated activities are the setting of academic standards for law schools, the formulation of model ethical codes related to the legal profession, advancing the continued legal education of lawyers and interested parties (Continuing Legal Education (ABA-CLE)) and to aid in the dissemination of legal texts through he promotion of publishing.

The ABA mission is “To serve equally our members, our profession and the public by defending liberty and delivering justice as the national representative of the legal profession.” The goals and objectives are: Goal 1: Serve our members. (Objective: Provide benefits, programs and services which promote members’ professional growth and quality of life.) Goal 2: Improve our profession. (Objectives: 1) Promote the highest quality legal education; 2) Promote competence, ethical conduct and professionalism; 3) Promote pro bono and public service by the legal profession.) Goal 3: Eliminate bias and enhance diversity. (Objectives: 1) Promote full and equal participation in the association, our profession, and the justice system by all persons; 2) Eliminate bias in the legal profession and the justice system.) Goal 4: Advance the rule of law. (Objectives: 1) Increase public understanding of and respect for the rule of law, the legal process, and the role of the legal profession at home and throughout the world; 2) Hold governments accountable under law; 3) Work for just laws, including human rights, and a fair legal process; 4) Assure meaningful access to justice for all persons; and 5) Preserve the independence of the legal profession and the judiciar

The International Law Students Association is a non-profit association of students and lawyers who are dedicated to the promotion of international law. ILSA provides students with opportunities to study, research, and network in the international legal arena. The organization’s activities include academic conferences, publications, the global coordination of student organizations, and the administration of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. ILSA seeks to promote international law; to encourage communication and cooperation among students and lawyers internationally; to contribute to legal education; to promote social responsibility in the field of law; to increase opportunities for students to learn about other cultures and legal systems worldwide; and to publicize educational and career opportunities in international law.
ILSA globally administers the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. Every year, thousands of students from more than 500 schools in over 80 countries participate, making the Jessup the largest moot court competition in the world.

OFID’s key aim is to foster social and economic progress in the developing world through the provision of concessional financing for developing countries. However, OFID’s work goes beyond simply dispensing aid; one of its central aims has always been to advance ‘South-South’ solidarity in every way available to it. It does this by promoting cooperation in many spheres among countries of the developing world. It also does what it can to champion the cause of the developing world in the international arena. In this regard, OFID has been closely associated with two multilateral institutions of great relevance in the developing world: IFAD and the Common Fund for Commodities (CFC).
The Global Legal Information Network (GLIN) is a network of Member States and designated International Organizations committed to enhancing the legislative processes of individual countries, and to making their laws and legal decisions accessible to their citizens, legislators, government and private sector officials and others who relate to the country through international trade, and to participants in the global community generally.
The mission of the American Society of International Law is to foster the study of international law and to promote the establishment and maintenance of international relations on the basis of law and justice. ASIL is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, educational membership organization founded in 1906 and chartered by Congress in 1950. ASIL holds Category II Consultative Status to the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations and is a constituent society of the American Council of Learned Societies. In this regard, OFID has been closely associated with two multilateral institutions of great relevance in the developing world: IFAD and the Common Fund for Commodities (CFC).

The Washington Foreign Law Society, founded in 1952, promotes knowledge and understanding of international legal matters, comparative legal issues, and foreign law. As a center for international activity — diplomatic, financial, commercial and academic – Washington, D.C. is served by a legal community that daily interacts with the laws and legal actors of foreign countries as well as those of the United States. The Society is in a unique position to disseminate information about foreign laws and to promote scholarship on international and comparative law. Its members have opportunity to interact directly with leading experts in the field.

The Inter-University Center for Legal Studies [IUCFLS] deals with the relationship of the rule of law to issues of counter-terrorism strategies and policy, the consequences of terrorism, and genocide. The Center draws on the resources provided by academic institutions throughout the world to present seminars and to prepare publications. The mission of the IUCFLS, a consortium of universities and think tanks in over 35 countries, is to contribute academically to the global effort to deal effectively with a broad range of topics including, human rights, ethnic, racial, and religious intolerance and violence; propaganda and information warfare; terrorism; genocide; and war crimes. Although interdisciplinary in its approach, IUCFLS focuses on the relationship between the rule of law and various issues under consideration. The purpose of the IUCLS is four-fold: 1. Monitor current and future threats to peace and security; 2. Develop response strategies on governmental and non-governmental levels; 3. Effect continual communication with policy-makers, academic institutions, business, media, and civic organizations; 4. Sponsor research programs on selected critical issues and share the findings nationally and internationally.
The Oil, Gas & Energy Law Intelligence (OGEL) is a peer-reviewed online journal published by Maris B.V. which focuses on recent developments in the area of oil-gas-energy law, regulation, treaties, judicial and arbitral cases, voluntary guidelines, tax and contracting, including the oil-gas-energy geopolitics. OGEL started publishing in January 2003. Founding editor of OGEL was Professor Thomas W. Wälde. OGEL has an associated listserv called OGELFORUM which is a place for discussion, sharing of insights and intelligence, of relevant issues related in a significant way to oil, gas and energy issues: Policy, legislation, contracting, security strategy, climate change related to energy.
The Transnational Dispute Management (TDM) is a peer reviewed online journal published by Maris B.V. The TDM journal has a focus on the management of international disputes, especially the rapidly evolving area of investment arbitration, but also in other significant areas of international investment (such as for example oil, gas, energy, infrastructure, mining, utilities etc). It deals both with formal adjudicatory procedures (mainly investment and commercial arbitration), but also mediation and ADR methods, negotiation and managerial ways to manage transnational disputes efficiently. TDM started publishing in February 2004. Founding editor of TDM was Professor Thomas W. Wälde. TDM has an associated listserv called OGEMID, international forum for dispute resolution, with a particular focus on international treaty-based investment disputes relevant for both practitioners and academics.
