Overview 

This program is designed to provide government officials, legal practitioners and private sector officers with insights of current Chinese legal and economic policies and practices. The program provides updates to current [2022] and near term policies, laws, and economic environment in China. Our open and interactive format allows for honest, non-political, discussions to explore each subject thoroughly and to assess and navigate risks and opportunities accordingly. Program is designed for government officials, legal advisers, project developers, and business leaders.



Format

The seminar will be delivered through 5 live online sessions via videoconferencing platform. Each session will last approximately 3.5 hours. We expect the classes to be highly interactive.

Course Advisor

Robert Sargin is the Executive Director and Director of ILI’s Asia Initiatives. Mr. Sargin has 16 years of experience in international development working directly with governments and legal institutions globally. Mr. Sargin has over 30 years experience as an executive managing large, multinational corporations, interational offices, and developing and maintaining international supply chains. Mr. Sargin specializes in China, India, Vietnam, and South Asian relations and capacity building programs. His work includes participating in the development of country constitutions, laws, training of senior government officials, public and private legal practitioners, judges and court officers, as well as private sector and state owned enterprise officers. Mr. Sargin represents ILI in the Belts and Road International Lawyers Association; IFC; MIGA; and conducts conferences and training throughout India on trade and investment.

Dr. Mei Gechlik formerly a tenured law professor in Hong Kong and the Founder and Director of the China Guiding Cases Project at Stanford Law School. Dr. Mei Gechlik is an expert with a 25-year-old track record of excellence in promoting understanding of Chinese law and policy via leading institutions or forums. These institutions and forums include Stanford Law School, the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, US-China Legal Exchange Conferences, the World Bank, the United Nations, the Supreme People’s Court of China, and international conferences organized by China’s official institutions. Dr. Gechlik is admitted as a barrister in England, Wales, and Hong Kong and is a member of the Bar in New York and the District of Columbia. She received an M.B.A. in Finance from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a Doctor of the Science of Law (J.S.D.) from Stanford Law School.
